Barry Winslade
While Barry has 16 years of fuel industry experience, his career spans a range of industries, businesses and roles. Starting in consumer electronics with AWA New Zealand Ltd and then Fisher & Paykel, Barry spent his early working days in and around the lower North Island.
A move into the liquor industry saw Barry working with Calypso Beverages both before and after it changed its name to Independent Liquor (an initiative he was intimately involved in). Then he established, owned and operated a couple of small businesses – a local delivery service and an adventure tourism operation. Though initially based in Tauranga, his work took him from Taupo through New Plymouth and eventually to Wellington. After selling these businesses he returned to Tauranga to join Direct Fuels Ltd.
Barry undertook multiple roles with Direct Fuels, including long hours driving the delivery truck. As the company grew his focus moved to business development (in particular expanding the on-site refuelling business). In addition to the steady growth of the company into Hawkes Bay, Taupo, Waikato and eventually Auckland, highlights for Barry were winning a major multi-year contract with an Auckland motorway project and helping the company win the Bay of Plenty region Westpac Business of the Year Award in 2006.
After moving to Auckland he has had roles with Mini Tankers / Z Energy and also Petroleum Logistics. He joined GAS in September 2015.
Barry has a keen interest in aviation and holds both a fixed wing and helicopter pilot’s licence and is currently (lovingly) renovating a gyroplane. As if this is not enough, he may also regularly be found fighting seasickness in a determined pursuit of prize fish.
